The Critical Thinking Unit Entry Pathway provides the opportunity for talented Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students commencing Year 11 in 2026, to enrol into a first-year unit: PHIL1037: Critical Thinking, at Macquarie University.
Dates: Students will study via distance education (all online) for approximately 13 weeks (includes session break). Session 1 starts 23rd Feb.
Support is offered: Students are matched with a personal Walanga Muru tutor and use Studiosity for additional online assessment help.

Defence Work Experience Program
The Defence Work Experience Program is currently accepting applications for the following placements:
Army Familiarisation Program: Lone Pine Barracks (March)
11 - 13 March 2026
The Army Familiarisation Program is a 3-day placement for secondary students that offers an insight into careers available in the Army and the opportunities they provide. Students will be familiarised with many of the units within Lone Pine Barracks, showcasing a variety of roles including Infantry, Combat Engineering, Drivers, Signals, Physical Training Instructors, Mechanics and other Trades, Suppliers, and Administration. Participants will experience facilities such as the Mess, Gym (including a fitness assessment and Pool Obstacle Course), Military Museum, Base Accommodation, and other base facilities. Accommodation is provided for all students attending the placement. Information about the Defence recruiting process will also be included in the program, delivered by the ADF Careers Centre Newcastle.
This program includes activities with physical components, so a reasonable level of fitness is required to maximise your experience.

Indigenous Youth Program: RAAF Williamtown (March)

The Air Force Indigenous Youth Program (IYP) provides young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women with exposure to various skills, trades and life-style experiences. Students will be exposed to a program of indoor and outdoor activities providing students with an insight into a wide range of careers including aircrew type employment through to engineering, maintenance, logistics, air traffic control, fire & rescue, administration, ground defence and many others. Information about the Defence recruiting process will also be included in the program. More details will be provided ahead of the program with your offer to attend.
This is an overnight program with accommodation and all meals provided.

Air Force Familiarisation Program: RAAF Richmond (March)

The Air Force Familiarisation Program is designed to give participants an exposure to what a career in the Air Force would be like and is hosted by 22SQN at RAAF Base Richmond. Roles covered in this placement include aircrew, technical, ground support roles, military working dogs, engineering, maintenance, logistics, air traffic control, PTI’s and fire & rescue.
